Cancelmi holds a BA in Theater Studies from Yale College, where he studied translation with Alyson Waters and French with Françoise Jaouën. He studied dramaturgy and aesthetics with Philippe Tancelin and Fanette Vander at Paris X, St. Denis, and contemporary French theater with Robert Cordier, Lesley Chatterly and Stephen Rotenberg at Acting International, Paris. He has adapted and translated texts and provided dramaturgy for numerous theater directors, including Arthur Nauzyciel, Rob Melrose and Alex Harvey.
